Runners World Magazine

Forgot to add this but I have some good news regarding promotion for my upcoming book Addict to Ironman.

The November issue of Runner's World Magazine has an interview with my author and friend John Hanc regarding this project. All things are a go and the book is set for a relase date of April 2006.

I also have just confirmed I will be doing the Great White North Triathlon Half Ironman on July 2, 2006. I want to thank Wade and Deb from Edmonton, Canada for their assistance to make this possible.

Ok off to make dinner for the kids.

Get out and exercise it is good for the soul.

New Diary Format

Quick note here as I am now able to enter my diary entries myself without pestering my brilliant webmaster.

I want to thank Aaron the web God for coming over and getting my computers working properly. Seems we had a mishap here yesterday and it was quite possibly my fault but I suspect it was my son Konor messing around on this thing as he is learning how to work the computer.

Anyway just a quit note to thank Aaron for getting me squared away.
Enjoy the day.

4th Annual Racing for Recovery 5K

It has been awhile and I apologize for the delay. No excuses I have just not added anything lately.

First things first, I want to thank Melissa's cousin Kelly for taking pictures of the kids and our family. She is here from California and does a great job at her work. The pics will be up on the site soon and you can check her out at Kelly Williams Photography.

I read a sign today that said "You make a living at what you get, but you make a life and what you give". This is so true and I thought about what I am doing personally to live up to that. I feel through Racing for Recovery I have given all I can to help people who have been impacted by drug and alcohol addiction. As of today, I have donated a total of 205 copies of ADDICT, have scheduled 3 complimentary speaking dates in New York and will do another one here tomorrow to share my story and this program to help anyone possible. I enjoy helping those who need it and will continue to donate my time and anything else I have to offer in order to help others.

Entries are starting to flow in lately and we are looking for a big turnout for the 4th Annual Racing for Recovery 5k run/walk on Oct 23. This is our big event to bring the community together in order to prevent substance abuse and provide positive alternatives to those currently battling addictions. It is not just a running race but an event that everyone can participate in. This organization needs your support to continue to do our services so please come out and support us.

Enjoy your day.

Unfortunately, addiction sometimes is a powerful thing

Couple sad notes to share regarding addiction. A lady who is in my Master of Counseling Program wanted me to give an ADDICT dvd to a friend of hers who was battling addiction so I did. I was informed that it made an impact on him and he was on his way to recovery. Unfortunately, addiction sometimes is a powerful thing and this young man thought he could use one more time for old times sake. He ended up overdosing and was in a coma for several weeks. I just got word last night that his funeral took place over the weekend. It is sad to see another young life lost when it did not have to be.

I also received a letter from a guy in prison who is doing life. For what you ask? Murdering his own mother. Turns out that this gentleman had nine months of sobriety and wanted to drink one more time and in a blackout he killed his own mother with whom he had a great relationship with and woke up in a hospital handcuffed to his bed. He had no idea why and when he was told what had occurred he was in disbelief. Once again we are reminded of how serious addiction is.

My point in sharing this information is this. Society needs to support programs like Racing for Recovery so we can prevent this from happening again. Alcohol and drugs kill more people than all cancers combined and also do more damage to society but people do not give this the attention it deserves. Of course when it hits home on a personal level then people want to get help immediately for their loved one or friend.

I will be donating a couple presentations at our local jail and drug treatment center in the next couple weeks. I am looking forward to reaching out and helping people in both of these facilities. I was contacted to do these gigs by a girl who heard me speak a few years ago and is now working in the field to help others.

On a positive note the entries are coming in for our 4th annual 5k on Oct 23. We need volunteers and if you would like to sponsor this event and get your company name on the t shirts, please contact me ASAP.

I am off for a run as I have the Chicago Marathon to do on Oct 9. One last big event and I am done for a few months.

Enjoy the day.

Every 30 seconds someone in the United States is killed by a drunk driver

Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend. Please keep the people who were impacted by the Hurricane in your thoughts.

Sign up is now available for the 2nd Annual Racing for Recovery Half Ironman/Sprint Triathlon on June 11, 2006. Event Details.

Also registration is available for the 4th Annual Racing for Recovery 5k run/walk on Oct 23 here in Sylvania, Ohio. Every 30 seconds someone in the United States is killed by a drunk driver so lets support our worthy event and prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.

I got the artwork for my upcoming book Addict to Ironman last week and I must say it looks great. My dream of having a book to help others is now becoming a reality and I am extremely excited and thankful for this opportunity.

Ok I have to get back to work.

Enjoy your week.
